DTF printing in DFW — full-color custom t-shirt

DTF Printing in DFW: Full-Color Custom Apparel Without High Minimums

DTF printing has quietly become the most flexible decoration method in custom apparel. It prints full-color artwork onto a transfer film, then heat-presses onto cotton, polyester, blends, performance fabrics, and even hats. No screens, no color separations, no large minimums. Here is what DFW businesses should know.

What is DTF printing?

DTF stands for direct-to-film. We print your full-color artwork onto a PET film coated with adhesive powder, cure it, and heat-press it onto the garment. The result is a vivid, soft-hand graphic that stretches with the fabric and holds up through 50+ wash cycles. Unlike older heat-transfer methods, DTF works on dark and light garments equally well because it lays down its own white ink layer. Unlike screen printing, no setup is required per color.

Why DTF works for DFW businesses

  • No minimum order. Print 1, 12, or 1,000.
  • Full color, no setup fees. Gradients, photos, and complex logos print cleanly.
  • Works on almost any fabric. Cotton, polyester, tri-blends, performance knits, fleece, denim, canvas, even some nylons.
  • Fast turnaround. Without screens to burn, a small DTF order can ship in a few days.
  • Perfect for personalization. Individual names, numbers, and role tags for new hires, athletes, or event teams.

When to choose DTF over screen printing

Below about 24 shirts, DTF almost always wins on price and flexibility. Above that, screen printing takes over on per-shirt cost. Full-color photographic logos, gradients, and small detail work also stay on the DTF side regardless of quantity.

Industries where DTF shines

How long does DTF last?

Properly applied DTF transfers regularly survive 40–60+ wash cycles with the graphic still vibrant. The biggest enemies are high-heat dryers, bleach, and ironing directly on the print. For uniforms washed in commercial laundry, we recommend turning shirts inside out and air-drying when possible.

What artwork do you need?

Vector art (.ai, .eps, layered .pdf) is still ideal because it scales cleanly. But unlike screen printing, DTF can also work from a high-resolution PNG (300 dpi at print size) with a transparent background. Send what you have; we will tell you if it needs cleanup before press.

What does DTF cost in DFW?

Per-shirt DTF pricing usually falls between $5 and $15 depending on print size and quantity. There is no setup fee, which is what makes small runs realistic. Gang sheets (multiple small logos on one printed sheet) can drive cost per logo down to $1–$3 when you are stocking up on names or patches.

Frequently asked questions

Is DTF the same as DTG?
No. DTG (direct-to-garment) prints ink directly onto cotton; it works best on light-colored 100% cotton. DTF prints onto film first, which lets it transfer onto far more fabric types. We use DTF.
Can DTF be used on hats?
Yes, with the right press setup. Embroidery is usually still more durable for caps, but DTF can do full-color art that embroidery cannot replicate.
Will DTF crack or peel?
Not when applied correctly. Cracking usually means insufficient heat, pressure, or time during press, or improper home laundering.
Is DTF cheaper than screen printing?
Below about 24 shirts, yes. Above that, screen printing wins on per-shirt cost.
